The judges and I will talk things over and begin reviewing and scoring the maps. I predict the process to take 2-4 weeks depending on how in depth we go. During for ~3 weeks we will also have a vote for "community's choice" of their favorite mapper in the contest.

Thanks for running this contest [-Z-]: it seems to have achieved the fixing of many of the q3maps and gotten lots of mappers to make new maps![hr]
Cyber Volley looks great and CTF 4 exciting. Is 4 teams supported? I remeber playing CTF 4 on UT and it was great.

Okay, well the poll has ended and it looks like Moo and PCLizard have won. I didn't mention this in the beginning but there is actually a prize :).

Since this contest was about inspiration and community, I thought it would make sense to offer you a chance to inspire others in a whole new way. A way of your choosing, with total freedom and endless possibilities. I will help you guys setup your and carry out your vision as best I can, as you have helped me and the other ninjaz.

I will work out the details with echo servers and get back to you guys.

Thanks to everyone who participated, I'm really happy with the turn out and number of entries in this contest. I'm still waiting for the judges to get back to me on their grades and I've admittedly been quite busy myself managing servers / taking a break in nature for a mind reboot / working with some clients and starting up a new job.

I'd like to espeically thank (again) moo, PCLizard, grasshopper, dax, unknown, mkzelda, MrBougo, dokujisan and even mikee... who have helped the community and myself learn a lot more about maps, the Dark Places engine, collaboration, administration, art and community.

MooKow and PCLizard. It was really fun to watch your map(s) pan out. You listened to the feedback of others and continued to build upon your vision and did an AWESOME job collaborating. Both creatively and scientifically, meaning brushwork / textures / environment and the use of SVN. Our conversations in game and on IRC are always fun. MooKow, you especially keep this game fun for me, helping me keep my head on straight when things go whacky because you have a great understanding of "body language" or mood in the game. You know how to keep it fun.

Grasshopper, you are a very good student. You ask very precise, well articulated questions. You listen well to feedback and are always striving to improve. You are clearly a member of the Nexuiz Ninjaz (unoffical) street team and you share the love for not only the playing of the game but the addition to it and love to inspire others. You're not only a good student but a good teacher and peer.

DAX, you're a fun guy who has a good understanding of many fields related to computers. You did a good job planning out your map and while it lacks detail, it's obvious you have put a lot of thought into the reason for objects, obstacles and the stimulation of situations caused by possible events. You've helped the community through strong will and knowledge and it's a pleasure having you here and even more so having you contribute.

Unknown and soulbringer, I know there was some controversy over your maps and it sucks. I know first hand how hard you worked on them. I'm trying to make the best decisions I can with these maps as a leader and server administrator... but the contest pressure from all sides makes it hard for me to think straight some times. The hypocrisy and self-defeating attitude of the main stream Nexuiz community is a big reason the ninjaz exist in the first place... and while the vision may have been blurred over the months due to speculation of others who refuse to understand the believes this community was built on... THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND, that these maps were converted out of love for the game. Love for the sport, the competition, the inspiration these maps bring. They were created by some of the best minds in FPSes and it's a shame some people feel the need to twist this.

mkzelda, you're the man. What can I say? You've also been a very understanding, level-headed, helpful dude who's stood by my side through thick and thin to help this community and Nexuiz succeed. Selflessly helping me with the game servers and other ninja applications as well as anything computer related. You're a wonderful person to bounce ideas off of and I can even find the words to express my gratitude but I hope you know how much you mean to not only this community but to me as a friend. Thanks man, I honestly couldn't have made it this far with out you. This competition would have never existed if you weren't around to help me with all the things you do.

MrBougo, your selfless advice and positive energy within any community you touch is a breath of fresh air. While not really being too directly involved in this contest, I have seen you help others with questions related to the game, the communities, mapping or whatever. Nexball is amazing and you've reinspired a whole new genre of Nexuiz maps. Like moo, your in game energy is awesome. You are an all around good guy and I'm glad you are involved in Nexuiz.

Dokujisan, I know you've been busy but you've also kept up with things. Offering advice in a similar manner to mkzelda only more involved in the web development and game administration side of things. You've helped me think about ways to solve problems related to maps, server administration and organization of these things... something this very contest was concerned with.

mikee, I know things aren't smooth with us but you do a lot of good things for Nexuiz. You've extended and tested the limits of the game and contributed to mapping at an enormous scale. When ignoring your political agenda, you're a very inspirational person to the Nexuiz mapping world, though your maps may be an aquired taste for some.

Sepelio, sev, cortez and tZork, we don't have a big rapport but your maps were also great contributions. Sepelio's symdusty and cortez/tZork's greatwall overloaded are epic remixes of a great classics and sev, your cell shaded nex ball map, which uses 2 balls instead of just 1 is also an inspiration so large, it required a code update :-P

Thank you -z- . And thanx to the mappers who entered the contest . This has been a good thing for nexuiz because it raised awareness of the need for constant new maps . For this it has also brought the knowledge forward for doing it correctly . I love this game , as we all do and this is why i think it is important that i collect and post things for mappers to use and learn from . Some people dont use irc or do not know how to , and that is why i created the mapping resources page in Mapjutsu .
The contest was exciting for me . It gave me a goal to set . I gave myself a limit of two maps to produce within 3 months timeframe . why ? because this is the feild of work i would like to get into and i wanted to see if my goals could be met because this is what a job like this would do . looking back on it now i think i could have pushed myself more . but i did not want to produce bad maps . although they may be :) winning prizes was never my goal to meet . this was for me and nothing else .
Any way this has been fun . And if we do it again in less than a year , i hope that some new mappers i have helped will enter if they stick with it . I think it would be fun to make an annual account of this and to see more people involved . = more maps:) good luck to you guys . see ya agin next year ? hint hint .

Whew, giant posts there, -z- and Grasshopper, :D. Don't expect me to top them, but I think I'll just say this:

It was a good competition and I'm happy I decided to participate in it. Let me stress to everyone that just because your map may have not gotten many votes, you still did a GIANT THING for the Nexuiz community. You helped a lot by adding more maps to the maplist in Ninjaz servers, and you've added more overall choices for players.

I asked -z- to start Mapjutsu for a few reasons:
1) A starting point and tutorial for new mappers.
2) A showcase for maps to be reviewed and improved.
3) To bring more mappers AND MAPS into Nexuiz.

I honestly would say that before Mapjutsu, the mainstream maps were a serious problem: there were too few of them. Mapjutsu did help to bring more into Nexuiz. Mapjutsu has attracted many mappers, the tutorial links provided by Grasshopper definitely helped newer mappers to start learning the trade, and overall, we've produced some pretty sweet maps.

How does this relate to the contest? Well, DUH! See how many maps were made in this 3 month period? That's a lot. That almost looks like it fits the third goal of Mapjutsu. It also looks like it fits the second one listed. We can produce that many maps without a contest. Aside from adding more maps, this contest also inspires collaboration. It's proven by example: When mappers work together, their maps are liked by more people and have more diversity in them.

To the competitors: It was a good game, and I had fun in making my maps. I hope you had fun making yours! Remember what I stated at the beginning of this post: Just because you didn't win doesn't mean your maps didn't help this community.

I like your site and the various scripts and such that you're making for nexuiz (like that auto packager I've seen screenshots of). I think you're a cool person aswell and am happy that you try to get more players and such for the game we all play :) . I also use the picture gallery part of this site constantly for helping with bugfixing or just posting whatever new thing has been created.

Question: would it be possible to convince quake-related map review sites to review nexuiz maps (since nexuiz is based on quake). If such was done it could bring more Quake-# players in? Do you know any of those guys?

I wish I had a better job, and more still a purpose or goal in life... and we all know what my goal would be (it's the same as any man I believe).
