DivVerent's gone. He has quit developing nexuiz because of the disrespect and constant demands (without any help) from the "community". TVR was always dissing him and being an arrogant prick. Greenmarine talked down to him often, while demanding things. TwEaK gave him problems aswell. Z, well he sees Z as trying to take over and enforce his ideas on everything (while not coding himself). Many other people who demanded things and did not even try to code them.
Out of all the people who responded to the thread only two seemed to give a damn that he was leaving and were upset by that. The rest of the players basically said that they "understand" and that nexuiz will continue: IE: don't let the door hit you... etc. This is because the majority of the nexuiz community doesn't give a shit about the PEOPLE who make their game. Torus even saw some silver lining: div leaving, he surmised, probably spells the end of my involvement with nexuiz. He's probably right: there's no way I can get anything in now and I'm not sure I want to do anything for nexuiz without div around (because, really, then the only people to benifit are the players who just don't give a damn about div anyway... or anyone else other than themselves and their "cliques" (example: the 'oblivion-think' clique (also known as the social leftism you all are indoctrinated in school with (women above men, just say "no" to marraige, etc)))).
Nexuiz may continue without Div, but it will continue in the same way the "roman republic" continued after the ascention of the emporers. We will have idealouges running the show, and poorly: remember div0 was the last of the developers: everyone else has left aswell.
I hope he doesn't give out svn access too easily and continues making sure patches to the code are good.
Basically the "loving nexuiz community" hated on divVerent for coding for Nexuiz, constantly demanded things, didn't lift a finger to help for the most part, and dissed him for adding things they didn't like (even as options) ... and he's said "fuck it".
What is the nexuiz community? A bunch of fools who post topics such as "1000 pisses contest". Complete idiots. Hey, but, that's expected: they're all carbon copy clones from the schools. The only thing they all agree on is social politics. Everything they believe has been given to them and they produce very little themselves. All they do is consume and demand.
What is the good in helping such people?
I post here because I can't easily post there from this connection (would take to long to make a new username through proxies (5 min or so, and I'm not at my home)). Feel free to forward this to the alientrap board.
The rest of the players basically said that they "understand" and that nexuiz will continue: IE: don't let the door hit you... etc.
I don't think that's an accurate portrayal. That is certainly not the message that I posted (don't let the door hit you, etc).
I would like to work on plans to do more of what you have done, Mikee, and that is trying to reach developers in the far reaches of the internet to see who might be interested. I was chatting with -z- about this also. I think it would be a good idea to try to attract students from "gaming" colleges (technical colleges that try to teach game programming). There are a lot of ideas to explore here.
There are at least two universities here in Scotland that do game design related courses.
http://www.paisley.ac.uk/
http://www.gcal.ac.uk/
This one might, I'm fairly sure it has a good computing department
http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/
Those are just suggestions of unis with courses I know of. I've asked a few of my friends who are on such courses if they know anyone that would be interested but I've managed to get nowhere so far.
In my defense, I'm trying to bring my project management skills over to the Nexuiz project which lacks specifically in the management area. I'm not trying to take over but rather get things organized. I created a sub community because not everyone wants to play this way and I respect that but I wanted to make the information available to other players who did so that we could collaborate. By doing this, we also started building a network around the game, giving it more credentials and spreading the information out. I've tried to explain these things but my words fall on deaf ears as usual and the only thing I can do is what I'm doing.
I, like divVerent have selflessly given love to the game,
often writing to myself and having these visions and this history ignored. People are going to think what they want to think but I've tried to explain my motives as best I could.
I told divVerent I would help develop when I have time to learn QuakeC, which will be AFTER I'm stuffing my brain with Physics. Saying "-z- doesn't contribute code" makes it sound like I never plan to. I don't develop all these mockups and theories to just gather dust. I do however, have to prioritize. Seeing as how I own this domain name until 2010... and just started a mapping contest with prizes... I think you can pretty well guess I'm not going away anytime soon. These applications that run around the game are just as important as the game itself.
It's naive to think the ninjaz don't send traffic back to Nexuiz. This is internet marketing 101 and any time I drop a link for the ninjaz, there is a nexuiz.com one there to join. It's a mutually beneficial relationship that too many people fail to see. I'm not going to try to convince anyone because the facts are out there but people will have their own opinions anyway.
I've talked to divVerent about the project recently and I respect him very highly but I believe he view me and the ninjaz in the wrong light. I believe he is bringing this pain upon himself because all I'm trying to offer is love. I cannot currently code quakec but I can design (nexuiz.com), I can manage (nexuizninjaz.com) and I can market (soon playdeb.net). All these things go just as under-appreciated and/or misunderstood.
The ninjaz software (forum, etc) and backstory/morals isn't fully outlined or developed and I feel like I get punished for this. We've only been in development for a year and this is my first project like this. If you can't tell my heart and soul are into this and Nexuiz, you need to get checked. I, like divVerent can only do so much at a time but we are two different people in different areas of expertise and I wish we could just work together better. Actually, I thought we were working well until he posted the thread.
The rest of the players basically said that they "understand" and that nexuiz will continue: IE: don't let the door hit you... etc.

What does it matter if that is not quite exactly what they said? They just don't care much that he's leaving. THEY SHOULD FUCKING CARE. This is ____TERRIBLE___. One of the worst things that could happen.
Those players will just move to another game. But those who worked with div... well now there is no chance to work with him anymore.
FUCK.
This is very very bad.
Instead of giving congrats and saying nexuiz will go on and "understanding" we have to make nexuiz fun for div again. What the players and others are saying is that they WON'T even TRY to keep div from leaving... because they're arrogant and do not give a damn: if it's their way or div leaving they'll choose div leaving.
When your star dev is not likeing the game anymore, has too many things to do, is unhappy you try to help take the load off his sholders. You learn the code NOW. You find devs NOW (won't work though :P, you really have to dev yourself). You tell TVR to shut the fuck up...
etc.
You try to make the person feel supported and wanted in the "community". That he's liked and respected rather then being used and hated.
When you feel used and disrespected you tell that community of users to go to hell and you don't help them anymore.
.... and then they post "599th piss", "2937th beer" etc.
i have not read div's post yet , to be shocked ! I feel like a child left somewhere unknown . I really hope Div just takes some time off for a little while to gather his thoughts . I know it must be hard to have things comming at you in 9 million different ways .
I will say officially i appreciate evrything he has done . everything.
I do not know anything about coding for nexuiz , but i try to atleast contribute with mapping which is okay i guess, helping others learn , and much more . i have thanked him many times for the things he has helped me with and i think more people should do the same if the havent already .
DIV <COME BACK
I didn't say anything like that. You made it seem like I am happy that Div0 left. No, I'm not happy- I just think that it's unlikely that begging him would convince him to stay, so I see the next logical course of action is to address things which have been neglected. Coders will come eventually, I believe, if the game has the content to match the features already in place.
Why would a developer come to help Nexuiz, if all the new features added aren't used? There isn't a single Assault map, or a map that makes serious use of turrets, or LOD, etc etc etc. I agree with -z- in the sense that I think that the only way Nexuiz can progress, at this point, is with greater organization.
Torus even saw some silver lining: div leaving, he surmised, probably spells the end of my involvement with nexuiz. He's probably right:
I didn't say anything like that.
Understandable- we can only thank DivVerent for what he's done. Considering the amount of enjoyment I've gotten from Nexuiz (more than any game I've ever bought, possibly), I'm extremely greatful for Div's work. (Speaking of Mikee, I doubt he will be around anymore now that div0 has left

)
That's not what I was referring to. I was responding the the rest of your diatribe, which was pretty obvious from the content of my post.

What matters is that you gain happiness out of div0 leaving because you see that as leading to the removal of some second person who you dislike (me).
You think to yourself "div0 is the only dev that ever liked mike, now that he's gone the other devs will surely get rid of that pest... somehow... he has no allies now!".
Problem is, div0 is the only dev.
But ... hey, atleast you're happy to a degree and that is all that matters, no?
Ends justify the means and such.
