I wish I had a demo or video of this technique, but I can't do it very reliably yet. If any laserpad masters want to share some tips, please do.

I've been experimenting with laser jumps and trying to go further, higher and faster. My latest experiment is laser jumping on a jumppad.

The timing and angle is tricky. You have to fire so the laser a little before you hit the jumppad. I used to say fire half a second before, but it can vary depending on the your own speed, the type and angle of the jumppad and your ping.

When you get it right, you'll fly 2 to 3 times higher than usual. If it can be mastered, it would be very useful on some maps. Below are some examples. I got to the heights shown with the laser and a jumppad only. No other weapon, no hook, no special config, no weak gravity). I've marked the jumppad I used with a red arrow.

Capture City - laserpad on the fire hydrant next to the base. Instead of jumping as high
as the short tower, you fly way above the base tower. Great position to rain down terror,
before stealing the flag.

Space - laserpad on the lower level.
Instead of jumping as high as the second level, you fly way above the base level. You
can get this high using the right launchpad from the central platform, but this could be
useful if you are going to your home base and the second level is overrun with enemies.

Mental Space - This map seems like it was made for laserpadding. It is so easy to get
picked off here that avoiding the standard flight paths and having more time and distance
in the air could be a huge advantage. I have 3 examples.

Laserpad on the jumppad on the lower level. Instead of jumping as high as the second
level, you fly way above it. Blast the enemy and then go for the steal.

Laserpad on the launchpad heading toward the center platform. Instead of landing on
the lower center platform, you fly above the upper center platform. Snipe the enemy.
They'll have a hard time reaching you.

This is basically the same as the first mental space image. I laserpadded from the
jumppad on the other side. I liked the first image best to show the height. I included this
one because I thought it was a nice angle.

It is easier to do the same thing with a rocket instead of a laser blast, but you take heavier damage, of course.

other keywords so this post can be found in a search: jump pad, jumpad, laserjump
you really jump higher by doing that!
Try rocket jumping from a laser pad leap. :D When it comes to MentalSpace, I have jumped from the upper platform to the far (on the center platform) jumppad and lasered off it. Works well. I have also lasered off the near pad and got onto the upper center platform, but it's tricky. I think you can laserpad from the red base to the blue one.
I was on gasoline powered the other day and thought about trying it there . i dont know why i never have before like with other maps . So i lasered the base jumpads and shot over the center area nicely . i havent quite got it yet with laser . i usually fall just short or on the oppsing base jumpad . maybe a mid air curve will work . Mortar works well , but i have traded distance for health . i shoot up and over every time . and it makes for a quick run . so far i have gotten a just above 8 seconds on that trick jump .
i also jump a few times and then use laserpadding, that helps.
I've done it on (evil)space and managed to get from one bases side jump pad right onto the enemy flag. Difficult to get it perfect like that though.

Its easier to jump with laser pad on the middle fly thingy, then just julp to the other base.
:)

TIP ON LASERPADDING: Try to shoot the jumppad like a millisecond before you actually get on the pad.

It seems to depend on the location/size of the trigger_push

I think what happens is you are aiming to laser yourself into the trigger so that the force carries upwards.

With a laserjump, you fire to the floor and the bullet bounces back to your model. Same for laserpadding.

Useful and funny: If you fire at a jumppad while an enemy wants to use the jumppad, you laserpad him. Useful in spacemaps.
