So it took me a few days but through some good research, excellent resources and educated guesses I was able to setup a development environment I'm pleased with. I've successfully dual booted my new desktop computer with Windows XP 64bit and Ubuntu 8.04. I've synced key folders in my desktop Ubuntu install with my laptop using a program called Unison. In addition, I've allowed myself to share my desktop's keyboard and mouse with my laptop screen using a program called Synergy.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with my software setup. Linux desktop still isn't perfect but it's improved drastically since the last time I used it (~Ubuntu 6). The way I see it though, is the time I waste trying to figure how I can change something small in stupid in Windows, I could be using configuring in Linux.
I've finished the new design for Jesse. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. I played with some new ideas and really pressed myself against my own standards. Admittedly there are still some legacy errors I forgot to update when I ported code, such as missing end tags in meta tags or unescaped html entities (& vs. &) but that's nothing a few regex find and replaces can't fix when I have a moment.
I've been working on the ninja pack a little bit as well. I have a release candidate available for those who want to give me some feedback but I want to wrap up some other related things before I release it officially.
I've recovered all my code from my old computer and I've been trying to reorganize some of it to get my development environments nice and synchronized. For SPARTA!
