Hey all,
I'd like to discuss some of the recent activity in the Nexuiz clan community. As some of you know, there has been a bit of clan drama lately:
- some people dropping from clans
- some people taking a break from Nexuiz
- some people being dropped from clans
- some clans being born from previous clans
- some clans being discontinued
- some new clans popping up.
I'd like to stress how unhealthy all of this activity (in a short timeframe) can be to a growing community. Timing is a big key, with all of this stuff happening in the span of two weeks. From an outsider's perspective, it must give the impression of a community that is all but falling apart. From an insider's perspective, it probably feels like things are moving more backward than forward. But I want to make it clear to those within the community that I personally feel that, despite this rough patch of activity, this Nexuiz clan community is still moving foward. I just think of these recent moments as growing pains as many of us are still figuring out how to run clans or be in clans. It's just experience, really. It's part of the process that we must go through.
I think what would really help in the future is clan leaders would talk to people in the clan community before making any major decisions or announcing any major decisions. That would help keep things running smoothly so there aren't any mistakes made, and it would reduce the "shock" factor. I think a lot of people in the Nexuiz clan community are still in the dark about activities, so let me make an overview of recent events...
1. Lots of people jumped ship from GT or were kicked from GT, but GT is sticking around and Shaggy will make an effort to learn from the mistakes made and make GT a more active clan that better communicates with the rest of the clan community. I personally have high hopes for GT because I have some respect for the core GT members. I'm not yet clear on the current GT roster, but I know shaggy, Gene and MRB are still in. Not sure about Seifer/Falco/mugen/orwhateverhislatestnameis.
2. Evolution is a new clan that has formed by Boney from Rev0lution. Evidently, the issue was that Rev0lution grew too quickly and that caused some turbulance which prompted splitting off into another clan. To my knowedge, only Boney and Agama are currently in Evolution, but there are a few other players being considered.
3. To my knowedge, Rev0lution is in limbo and may spawn yet another new clan. I understand that Vendetta (the previous co-leader of the clan) officially left Rev0lution and is remaining clanless for now. I heard Jacko was taking a break from clans as well, and then I heard that Jacko was going to keep Rev0lution afloat. Then recently I heard that w1ndmill, jacko and some others are going to keep Rev0lution afloat but do so under a different name. Ann and Zombie have left Rev0 and remain clanless (by choice) at this time. I don't know about the other Rev0 members. If anyone can clear up the situation with Rev0, please do so in this thread or by creating a new thread to explain Rev0lutions current status.
3. There are a couple new clans that have popped up (MiT and I forgot the other) and one pseudo-clan that dopped (Anole). This has spawned a new thread that I will make in a few minutes on the discussion of new clans and failed clans.
4. Vortex's status : Inficio quit. Diabolik quit. No wait...Inficio is just taking a break for the summer. Diabolik is taking a break too. No wait, Diabolik isn't taking a break. F&^% it! I give up. I don't know what's going on here :-) (seriously though, I think Inficio is taking a break for a while and Diabolik is just backing off a bit on his Nexuiz playing...which I think is healthy because he was playing Nexuiz like he breathes air for a while there). Benithil seemed to come back into play for a bit, as did MutePrint, but I haven't seen much of Benethil lately (or Scorpion, actually).
5. Optimal activity : I've been super busy with working on Nexuiz projects lately, as well as securing a day job (which I finally did - yay me). Also mkzelda had a wedding this past week (CONGRATULATIONS MKZELDA!) so clan activity for optimal has slowed to a crawl. Also, Chryyz started a new job a few weeks ago and nifrek and -z- were both having computer problems recently. But now it appears that things are smoothing out and we're talking about doing regular clan practices soon. :-)
6. Clan matches, scrimmage matches, pickup matches - There have not been many lately. A large part of this has to do with the clan scene going through these growing pains (as I call them) lately. I believe things will start smoothing out soon and we'll start doing some matches. In fact, DeafOat (aka BrokenEars) was just talking to me last night about militia and o doing a practice match soon.
7. Practice matches? Scrimmage matches? pickup matches? official matches? What? - Just to make things clear, I made a thread to help explain this.
I hope this thread helps push an effort for all of us in the Nexuiz clan to better communicate. I think that would be good. :-)
